Hello Lewis:

I was under the impression that turning off
the radio via the wireless "widget" was just
as effective as a hardware switch.  I know
that when I turn off my Cisco 350 PCMCIA card
the "Plug'n'Play for PCMCIA" applet shows the
card as turned off and the lights no longer
flash on the card.  Is it different with the
internal and/or newer cards?

TIA,

- Mark

I don't recall whether the T60 has a hardware switch for the Wi-Fi. Check to make sure that it is on (look toward the front of the machine, under the lip).

Yes the T60 and T61 both have this switch - stupid idea in my opinion.

The X series, as well. I got a call from a client some months ago after just setting up an X60 for her (XP). the Wi-Fi suddenly would not work. I had to refer her to Lenovo for support, as I had no machine nearby to walk thorugh troubleshooting steps with her. It turned out to be that blasted switch, which she had inadvertently bumped...

I'm not sure whether the switch being off would still allow OS/2 to access the hardware. I thought it would have just cut power to the NIC. Perhaps not...

Carl, your points are well taken. I think (for me, at least) the biggest issue is the location of the switch. I think it would be better off on top of the keyboard bezel, near the power and other buttons, even if it remains a slider. It's just too easily hit by accident where it is under there.
