Quite the contrary...
1) When I boot my system on an airplane:
a) Saves the battery because the radio is off.
b) Unlikely to create havoc with the airplane systems.
2) If I'm just sitting in a pubic place [airport, restaurant
that does not have a hotspot,...] but have no need for a
WiFi connection, it protects my system from any possibility
of snooping. [Certainly more of an issue for Windoze users
that OS/2 users, but of course, that's the system that came
on the T60.]
While I understand potential issues if the switch is accidently off, I
personally like having the switch. [BTW, I was burned in the very
early days of my T60s, over a year ago. OTOH, it turned out that the
switch was not the problem, GenMac was still not properly supporting
the NICs.] Just like it is too easy to get used to the automatic
switch for the headlights on my car when a parking lot attendant does
not understand and turns the lights off, I end up driving down the
street in pure darkness. I've now learned to check the switch on the
car and on the T60.
To each his own, I guess... :-)
Happy New Year to all!
Carl
