You can use subchannels which gets away from the standard channels and makes those radios seem invisible to radios that only see 20 mhz channels. Now those 20 mhz channel radios still generate "noise" but since the new radios are on different channel widths it really does work. We've got that setup on our tower to combat all the consumer =stuff out there. The other end result by going to a smaller channel spacing is stronger signals and higher SNR (usually).
