This community is simply wonderful. Great news! Congratulations. A report to http://www.ecomstation.com/support/rc3report on the configuration issue (difference) is probably in order. An experienced eCS user will either pick up on this or - as in your case, Lothar - know where to go to ask for help. A novice won't have any clue as to what to do,so these are the types of things which (IMO) should really be pointed out to the development team. Not to go off on a tangent, but as I see the release of Vista and the associated replacement of Win32 apps for those contemplating an "upgrade" as a real opportunity for alternative OSes, including eCS. To that end, and for the first time in a long while, we may see an influx of new users switching over from the Windows environment, and it is important that we (the ubiquitous "we," as in those involved to some extent with the development and/or marketing of eCS as well as the general eCS community, whose longevity is closely linked to the continuation of OS/2 as a viable platform) consider what an unfamiliar user might experience when interfacing with the OS for the very first time (the install). Once the desktop is up and the system is connected to the net, a good set of links for help will go a long way, but if the network configuration is broken upon the first boot, the user is going to be rather upset (and rightfully so, if there's something which could have been done to prevent that). -- Lewis ------------------------------------------------------------ Lewis G Rosenthal, CNA, CLP, CLE Rosenthal & Rosenthal, LLC Accountants / Network Consultants New York / Northern Virginia www.2rosenthals.com eComStation Consultants www.ecomstation.com Novell Users Int'l www.novell.com/openenterpriseserver Need a managed Wi-Fi hotspot? www.hautspot.com ------------------------------------------------------------ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list .
