Got a little bit further. Booted Knoppix and ran a thing called
mii-tool - Shame it is not available for ECS.

root@2[knoppix]# ifconfig eth0 down
root@2[knoppix]# ifport eth0
eth0    6

This is interesting as it is only supposed to report a max of 4
according to the man page, but that also says it does not understand
all cards. However, see under capabilities below, there are 4 modes -
maybe a binary add of modes?

root@2[knoppix]# mii-tool -v eth0
eth0: negotiated 100baseTx-FD, link ok
product info: AdHoc AH101LF rev 11
basic mode:   autonegotiation enabled
basic status: autonegotiation complete, link ok
capabilities: 100baseTx-FD 100baseTx-HD 10baseT-FD 10baseT-HD
advertising:  100baseTx-FD 100baseTx-HD 10baseT-FD 10baseT-HD
link partner: 100baseTx-FD 100baseTx-HD 10baseT-FD 10baseT-HD
flow-control

Running a large FTP from another ECS box and my Solaris box gives
speeds of between 5.7 and 7 Mbytes/Sec so that would suggest it is
working OK.

Rebooted ECS and back to a reported 10,000,000 mbs as reported by
netstat -n FTP is so slow you can hardly see the numbers change :-)

Found you can set the MAC address in PROTOCOL.INI so set that to what
it ought to be and tried again. No better but at least other boxes'
"arp -a" report the correct MAC address. Seems to me that possibly the
driver is not getting the right info out of the card and is screwing up
somehow.

Can anyone give me pointers to get this working under Genmac please?
