My best guess is that the transceiver may be getting flaky. I've had similar issues from time to time (with various NICs), where replacing them with the same model yielded expected results.
I have spares on hand of the Intel cards, but I would have to look to see if I have any of the 3Com units (which were not supported under OS/2 when new). Of course, the cost of shipping one or two to you would outweigh the cost savings vs picking up a spare on eBay from a UK shipper, most likely...
Thanks Lewis - I suppose you don't know if any of the Intel ones have
the supported modem?
The 3Com card has been sitting in an anti static bag for since I boughtNot in my experience, but of course, you don't know how it was performing before.
the T21 - I doubt it has been powered for more than a few hours in all
it's life - Can electronics still go bad doing nothing?
I don't see why it would cost much, a mini PCI card can only weigh aTrue, and I will check into it for you; easy enough.
few grams.
One of the things I am going to try is another test with Knoppix andI'd have to look at a T2x to even jog my memory as to what settings are available in the BIOS. I'll do that, though.
see what sort of speed that gives. Also if anyone can tell me how to
get it to work with Genmac that might be worth a whirl. I just took the
card out to check and it is a 3CN3AC1556B and as I said, PCI scan gives
3C556 as device ID.
I found a Google hit that talked about messing with the BIOS PNP
settings WRT the MAC address funnies but I can't find a relevant
setting to tweak.
