It's possible to encrypt all traffic between the mail client and mail server. To configure Thunderbird: - POP: account settings -> server settings -> security settings: choose TLS or SSL. (Ticking 'use secure authentication' will only encrypt the password.) - SMTP: account settings -> outgoing server -> edit: choose TLS or SSL. Other mail clients might have (to some extent) similar settings. Of course, for these to work, your provider has to support it... I don't know which do and which don't. (I've built my own server, which does support encrypted traffic.) Best regards, Jeroen Besse
