I have not seen any ISP advertise secure email connections. This would help keep the password from being exposed but if will not keep the message secure unless you send the message encrypted to the intended receiver. It's possible to encrypt all traffic between the mail client and mail server. To configure Thunderbird: - POP: account settings -> server settings -> security settings: choose TLS or SSL. (Ticking 'use secure authentication' will only encrypt the password.) - SMTP: account settings -> outgoing server -> edit: choose TLS or SSL. Other mail clients might have (to some extent) similar settings. Of course, for these to work, your provider has to support it... I don't know which do and which don't. (I've built my own server, which does support encrypted traffic.) Best regards, Jeroen Besse
