For those of you experiencing difficulty getting DHCP configuration over the Wi-Fi link (particularly using XWLAN), I think I may have found my trouble.
In my dhcpcd.cfg, I had the following logging options enabled:
numLogFiles 4
logFileSize 100
logFileName dhcpcd.log
logItem SYSERR
logItem OBJERR
logItem PROTERR
logItem WARNING
logItem EVENT
logItem ACTION
logItem INFO
logItem ACNTING
logItem TRACE
I must have turned these all on for some troubleshooting many, many moons ago. After turning them all off (prefix with a "#"), and turning off the following options I had set:
option 12 Apollo
option 3
option 6
option 15
I was able to boot and immediately get an IP (no routing or DNS info, but those are related to options 3 and 6). I turned on all my options with the exception of 15 (not sure I really need it), and things still work, even after a reboot (not just a reconfiguration from XWLAN).
This could be a GenMAC thing or an XWLAN thing (my wired interface is a Broadcom, and I use the native OS/2 driver for it; I'm not sure whether it would produce the same difficulty under GenMAC).
Prior to this, I would just open a window and call NICOFF.CMD to constantly restart DHCPCD until I picked up an address (usually two or three times). This behavior was consistent between AP's, too.
I'm interested to hear if anyone else with the same difficulties can roll back to a "stock" dhcpcd.cfg and confirm my findings.
Hope to see you *all* at Warpstock in a couple weeks!!!!
