Hi Neil,

  A well known problem - you need to go into the bios/cmos and turn off 
the cpu power control "speedstep" (where the CPU is slowed down when on 
battery.

  In the power management page in CMOS you need to scroll down as this 
is one of the options that is not initially visible on the screen.
