Per a Linux page on the net, this modem should be configured using the AT-command set and then accessed using ppp. I have, per Lewis' earlier instructions, installed the USB-serial driver but there does not seem to be any minimally functional terminal-program part of eCS 1.2R and I don't have time to visit Hobbes and download any terminal program today, it will have to wait until tomorrow. In case there are any USB-experts in this forum, the USB Device Manager identifies two devices plugged in: "SGS Thomson Microelectronics" product 0x2016 and "4 Either Hand" product 0x1003. The latter seems to be the modem since it disappears when I unplug the USB cable. Below I have included the device report from the USB Device Manager for the USB 3G modem. Comments from any knowledgeable persons are welcome before I visit Hobbes to download a minimal terminal-program to explore further with. I can add that if I type echo "ATE0V1^SYSCFG=14,2,40000000,1,2" > com1 in a command window, the response is "the drive is not ready", trying everything from com through com5 results in the same response while com6 results in "the system cannot find the device specified," thus there seems to be something on one of the COM-ports. It is odd though, that the report below talks about SCSI command set... <<< Device Description >>> Type : 01 USB Rev : 110 Class : Reserved (0) Subclass : Reserved (0) Protocol : Reserved (0) Device Information is defined at interface Level Max. packetsize : 40 Vendor ID : 12D1 Product ID : 1003 Device Release# : 0000 Strings: Manufacturer Name : HUAWEI Technologies Product Name : HUAWEI Mobile Serial number : Not implemented Number of Configurations : 1 Configuration 0 : Lenght : 85 Name : Value : 1 Attributes : 0xA0 Power : 500 mA Interfaces : 3 Interface 0 Alt Setting : 0 Name : Data Interface Class : Vendor specific SubClass : Vendor specific Protocol : Vendor specific Endpoints : 3 Endpoint 0: Address : 81 Attributes : 03 Packetsize : 0010 Interval : 128 Endpoint 1: Address : 82 Attributes : 02 Packetsize : 0040 Interval : 0 Endpoint 2: Address : 02 Attributes : 02 Packetsize : 0040 Interval : 0 Interface 1 Alt Setting : 0 Name : Data Interface Class : Vendor specific SubClass : Vendor specific Protocol : Vendor specific Endpoints : 2 Endpoint 0: Address : 85 Attributes : 02 Packetsize : 0040 Interval : 0 Endpoint 1: Address : 05 Attributes : 02 Packetsize : 0040 Interval : 0 Interface 2 Alt Setting : 0 Name : Class : Storage Device SubClass : SCSI transparent command set Protocol : Bulk-Only Transport Endpoints : 2 Endpoint 0: Address : 83 Attributes : 02 Packetsize : 0040 Interval : 0 Endpoint 1: Address : 04 Attributes : 02 Packetsize : 0040 Interval : 0 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list .
