well, since this is such a good thinkpad forum....<cough cough> My T23 screen started to fade, that is, it would be bright at bootup and then dim. The video out works. I bought a used inverter on ebay but it's possible that it wasn't compatible in reality isn't it since it was a different brand and the unit was marked T21.. that doesn't seem to be it (or the inverter sucked). Should I Try another inverter (new) or go for the entire LCD assembly? It has been my experience that the backlight is a persistent issue (screen never brightens). In your case, the screen is bright at boot, and then fades, pointing me to the inverter. I doubt it's the LCD itself (I would expect the backlight to go before the LCD assembly). You need to be careful to get the right inverter for the display you have, or it may not supply the correct voltage to power the panel. The T2x models take similar inverters, and the LCDs all take the same inverter part number (10L1402). Perhaps you got a bad inverter, or perhaps the LCD switch (which turns off the display when closing the lid) is flaky (common problem on the T23).
