This is opposite for me with pretty much the same machine. With battery
optimized settings, the 2915 abg doesn't work at all. With battery performance
setting, it works fine on the battery or on AC.

With XWLAN the way it is, I need to write a script to wake up the wired
connection after XWLAN kills it. Both adapters on are on DHCP.
  
I have a script to kick the DHCP (your script, IIRC), and I have to run it two or three times, as my dhcpstrt line in setup.cmd has a quick timeout (0; if I bump this to 60, I can usually keep from having to re-run the script, but I don't feel like waiting during bootup when wired). The same card, in Diane's T30, connects without any intervention (not sure about her power settings).
