if your router actually assigned this machine/VM an IP address via DHCP then it
has a network connection. There's not if ands or buts. I can see the pings of
the router failing if the router has pinging disabled and can do so even from
the inside LAN( usually this is a WAN option ).
I would suggest you re-evaluate if indeed your router has actually assigned the
VM it's IP address. If you can verify directly that the IP was assigned from the router,
and you know the router has assigned IP/DNS/ROUTE information correctly with
a real computer, then the problem resides in Windows since DHCP is a TCP/IP
server process. You just can't connect and exchange information with DHCP without
a TCP/IP network connection.
Heck, boot a KNOPPIX CD iso image in VPC and see if it gets a network connection.
That'll prove VPC networking is working or not.
