Sorry to hear of your troubles, Mark. There are two (known) PCI ID's for the 2915: 4223 and 4224. In your GenMAC driver directory, make sure you have the subdirectory:
Hello:
I had significant problems with the miniPCI adapter
installation and eventually had to remove the card
in order to be able to connect to the Internet.
My favorite bus reader found
"Device 4223h PRO/Wireless 2915ABG MiniPCI Adapter."
However, my attempts to install it with GenMAC were
repeatedly frustrated. For one thing, the installer
appeared to be choosing the wrong *.nif and related
files to install to support it. My attempts to find
the correct file(s) and install manually led to the
refusal to boot. Did I need to be using Stack32?
Part of the PCI bus readout included:
"Cache line size 32 Bytes (8 DWords)"
11-15-06 10:27p <DIR> 0 ---- WRAPPER_8086_4223
And in there, something similar to the following:
3-05-06 10:31a 2,950 0 ---- W29N51.INF
7-19-05 8:14p 3,289,088 208 ---- W29N51.SYS
I am using the following drivers for the 4224:
2-08-07 1:30p 119,850 0 a--- w29n51.inf
5-13-07 8:05p 2,209,408 0 a--- w29n51.sys
Hello Lewis:
I have the 4223.
************************<snip>
C:\MPTN\genmac\driver\WRAPPER_8086_4223\W29N51.INF
2007/06/14 19:58:00 2950 WRAPPER_8086_4223\W29N51.INF
2006/03/05 10:31:15 2950 WRAPPER_8086_4224\W29N51.INF
2005/07/19 20:14:01 3289088 WRAPPER_8086_4224\W29N51.SYS
2005/07/19 20:14:01 3289088 WRAPPER_8086_4223\W29N51.SYS
Possibly the problem lies with the file
WRAPPER_8086_4223\W29N51.INF:
I believe it is identical to the file for theI just got back up to NY last evening. I looked at Diane's T30 just now, and see that I have identical files for both the 4223 and 4224, all dated February 8, 2007.
4224 as is possibly the driver file. It looks
like the developer was prototyping and left some
files incompletely configured.
Same one; that's not the problem, I don't think.Which build of GenMAC are you using?
GenMAC v2.00 16112006
For purposes of troubleshooting, backup PROTOCOL.INI, and edit it to only include the 2915 and perhaps your Pro/100. I haven't tried runnignt he Cisco driver in the same PROTOCOL.INI, and I know for a fact that GenMAC has some issues with multiple protocols binding to the same adapter (I cannot, for example, get IPX and IP to bind properly). Try just IP for now, and we'll work up from there.From PROTOCOL.INI (should be similar for the 4223 ID - note the change necessary to the section and DEVICE):
[W8086X4224_nif]
DriverName = WRND32$
VENDOR = 0x8086
DEVICE = 0x4224
NDIS_SYS = "W29N51.SYS"
NDIS_INF = "W29N51.INF"
SSID = "ANY"
DEBUGLEVEL = "NONE"
OPTIONS = "STACK32"
Relevant sections of PROTOCOL.INI were:
[IBMLXCFG]
netbeui_nif = netbeui.nif
tcpbeui_nif = tcpbeui.nif
tcpip_nif = tcpip.nif
fxwrap_nif = fxwrap.nif
E100BEO2_nif = E100BEO2.NIF
W8086X4223_nif = W8086X4223.nif
CISCOPCM_nif = ciscopcm.nif
[tcpip_nif]
DriverName = TCPIP$
Bindings = E100BEO2_nif,W8086X4223_nif,CISCOPCM_nif
[W8086X4223_nif]
DriverName = WRND32$
VENDOR = 0x8086
DEVICE = 0x4223
NDIS_SYS = "W29N51.SYS"
NDIS_INF = "W29N51.INF"
SSID = "WLAN"
DEBUGLEVEL = "NO"
OPTIONS = "NO"
And, I used protochk.cmd to straighten out ibmlan.ini.
[C:\ecs\bin]protochk.cmd
Updating C:\IBMLAN\ibmlan.ini
Saving C:\IBMLAN\ibmlan.ini as C:\IBMLAN\IBMLAN.184
STACK32 I've found to be important. In particular, when I first started experimenting, I could not load UNIAUD and GenMAC (for this card, at least) without it (I got the beep symptom Ed described and a hang at boot).
I'm not familiar with that parameter.
Surely. Thanks for your patience! ;-)Also for troubleshooting, try REMMING your USB statements (ISTR some issues tweaking those up at first).
I'll give it a try next time I have an
opportunity to install.
I hope I'm not forgetting anything.
... Again, sorry to hear of your troubles, and if it looks like a flakey card, I'll send you another to swap and test out.
I have two cards. I may try the other one next
time I try to install.
Thanks for your help!
