Good responses, all. Earlier ThinkPad docks would not allow release of the machine without either power down, suspend, or a signal from the OS that it could be undocked. I suspect that your lack of parallel passthrough upon re-docking is directly related to the manner in whcih you are undocking the machine, and I also suspect that your other expansion buses (perhaps with the exception of the USB) will not  function after re-docking (disk drive, PCMCIA, serial, video, PS/2). What else do you have connected to your dock besides power and parallel?
