Encryption hadn't been enabled before, and that didn't change.

  
I've observed the same behavior as Sandy reports. I have a client where we have WPA2 configured and SSID beaconing turned off. XWLAN keeps searching and can't find the AP...

However, this is a different issue (I believe) than what you are experiencing, Julian, unless it has something to do with the beaconing. Are you broadcasting the SSID? If not, try turning it on and see if that makes a difference.
