Hello Lewis:
I've run into what seems to be a significant problem.
When I install a miniPCI card, I cannot boot. I get
the error message:
///
1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in
- Power off and remove the miniPCI network card.
The Mini-PCI network card is not supported on
this computer. Remove it.
Yes, it's from this point I'd considered TP can't be recommended at all.
///
Is this fatal? Or can something be done to allow
BIOS recognition of the card? (Like a BIOS update)
There is available not a bios "update" but a bios workaround: "no-1802.com". I'll mail you later privately the program.
Yes as Kris says, there are a couple of programs that apply bios patches to fix this.
1802 means that you are installing a non-IBM Mini-PCI card in an IBM Thinkpad.
You will need to take the card out again, power up (from a DOS boot disk is perhaps the simplest way if you don't have a DOS capabale OS on the system - you probably have), apply the patch, close down the system, re-install the card, restart the system and "away you go".
Cheers/2
Ed.
