Why not use USB? There are some good USB wireless stuff out there, use CNET for reviews.

The machine doesn't have USB.

They don't work at all. The original poster wanted to use Windows.

I am the original poster, but don't want to run windows any more than
necessary. The current user of the machine doesn't do anything other than
windows.

Do you have a specific recco for one of these gaming adapters? It would
need a power connection other than USB.

I have not used one of these, so I can't say specifically which make is best, however as a guide of what you are looking for, here is one from D-Link:

http://games.dlink.com/products/?pid=383&sec=4

As you say, you will need to consider power - I don't know of any battery powered types and if you say the A20 diesn't have USB, then you can use the USB socket to power it - which may have been an option.

If you download and read the hardware maintenance manual from:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-4PER6S

You'll find that the laptop has a Mini-PCI slot that can take a WiFi card. You'll need to remove the battery and then unscrew the panel as shown in the manual and then you will be able to see if your particular model has the WiFi antennas built in. If so - you can go to eBAY and buy an Intel 2200BG based Mini-PCI Wifi card, run the Int18 fix utility if it's not an IBM card, to stop the Bios rejecting it and then install  the Windows drivers (from the Intel web site), and you have a WiFi equipped laptop !  If you wish to run eCS and Wifi (the system is OS/2 certified) come back here for more info or refer to my article on voice at:
