I've seen double-sided Rs, however, and have even rented a few movies this way (widescreen on one side; 4:3 on the other - Air Force One was like this, IIRC).
Are you sure you have 8.5GB writable DVDs not 4.7GB ones ? Video DVDs use the larger capacity.
double/dual layer DVDs are 2x the capacity of single layer DVDs( 4.7GB ). But, your DVD writer must have/support the double/dual layer capabilities. A good

looks like there are even double sided DVDs too. How about that, 17.1GB for
double/dual layer double sided. whoa.
