In this case, it was more of a pragmatic decision to be made.  I got them a
good deal on whitebox no-OS machines to replace older HP Pavilions that were
becoming hard to keep running - cheaper to replace than to upgrade drives,
memory, etc.  They have licenses for W2K/Office2000 (Pro level) but the concern
was EOL support.  By the time we figured out the cost of getting the OS and
some apps up to date to retain support, the numbers got scary.  I'm in the
process of setting up one station with openSUSE but I've got one program that
is holding up the works.

You wouldn't know of a decent accounting program for Linux do you?

criteria:
1. Contribution tracking, AP/AR/payroll functions, custom reports and forms
printing.
2. free or low cost
3. easy enough for non-account type users to learn
4. built-in membership tracking or an associated module/program a plus

I'm having problems finding anything that comes close - about as hard as
finding OS/2 apps anymore..
