No, it's a hardened SuSE Linux distro, bundled with a host of open source (and some commercial) modules. It's all configurable from a web interface, and backs up it's configuration at customizable intervals and emails the backups to me. If the box should crash, installing another is simple: 1 CD, then the restore of the configuration file over the LAN. Rebuilding takes less than an hour.

The reason I mentioned "Astaro-based" in my earlier post is that my own two boxes are actually running Novell Security Manager, which is Astaro 6 with Novell's branding. After version 6, however, the Novell/Astaro agreement has terminated. Version 7 is only available from Astaro (through one of their resellers, like me).

A final note (and more on-topic about wireless): The Astaro has provision for functioning as an AP or as a wireless client. I haven't set mine up this way, so I'm not well versed in the setup. It will be an interesting experiment sometime, however.
