Do systems of the last few years automatically shut themselves down, if they get too hot . . . or will they let everything fry ?  I thought I read something about a failsafe shutdown becoming standard ?

At what was probably the next to the last COMDEX, at an AMD sponsored panel, I cornered three AMD engineers, and told them that the word on the street was that AMD processors made good office heaters and just might melt down.  Their response was that AMD processors could not be damaged by their own heat; that they would shut down if they became too hot.

Also, Intel motherboards with four wire CPU fans have temperature shutdown controls in the BIOS.  You can select shutdown temperature and time delay before shutdown.
