That strikes a chord!  I HATE roofs.  My wife can't understand how I can be
perfectly comfortable upside down in an airplane at 0 g yet go white knuckle
after two steps on a ladder.

I think we got into this once before, but surge/lightning protection is a
science (or black art) al unto itself.  Most people just can't grasp the
magnitude of the power involved when lightning strikes.  Just a thought for
you:  those puny surge protector strips are very limited but (especially for
phone lines) one at the point of entry cascaded with a second one several feet
away near the actual equipment reduces the surge MUCH better than a single
point protection scheme.
