I understand completely. That wasn't what I was asking.

 however given that the latest versions of VMWare ESXi, Server and Player all work with eComStation 2.0 Silver as a guest, I'd say there's a good chance that (the latest version of) VMWare Workstation should also work.

I guess my point was that Workstation includes VMWare Player, but I'm not sure what it's used for.  Another machine(s), possibly.

I did, and I did!  I tried it again today, twice, including the two long delays for the ISA and PCI snoopers. That was what prompted my question re: MPTN.  That's what appeared to cause the traps that killed the install.

do you have the very latest version of VMWare workstation?

Yes, updated as of two days ago to the latest.
