Did you use the standalone convertor for that?As far as I know, yes.
I didn't notice the version of Player, but I can easily download it from the site. Workstation, OTOH, has it's own internal "player" mechanism. It also includes a copy of Player, but that's a separate item. At least that's my impression of what the docs say.
Are you sure you have the latest version of VMWare player? Did you download it new or use the one that came with VMWorkstation? I'd be tempted to download new.
I ate lunch, probably 30 minutes, and it was still stuck!
Does it eventually carry on after say 5 minutes or is it totally stuck?
Aha! No problem, I should have enough.
As you have to de-install VMWare Server before it allows you to install VMWare player, I can't look to see how much space VMWare server needed. I'd take a guess at 2GB but that really is just a guess and could be way off.
Virtual box still works on my WXP system alongside VMWare Server or VMWare player. I can't comment on VMWare Workstation.
General rule - backup all of your existing virtual images and de-install all virtualisation products, then install the one you want to test.Good rule! That idea is what started me thinking about the Linux version of VMWare Server. It's on a separate drive. I would hope the VMs could simply be moved from one OS version to another.
