Are you sure what you have is Workstation v6?  The latest, and recently released, version is v7.  I've tried installing RC7 on both v6 and v7 without success. If you manage to make it work please let me know how.

While I'm thinking about it, is there an ESX product, as well as the ESXi you are running?  Their web site, in addition to being circular,  is more than a little confusing.  :^)

You're right v 7.0.0-203739 - not v6.

From what I have seen, it looks like this wont work with an eCS client.

On the VMWare/VSphere ESX v4.01 products - there are three versions:

   The old full version to be installed on a disk by  a company - this is ESX and it comes with various management tools and (expensive) support options - this is what should be used for very large installations.

   Then there is a cut-down version called ESXi (i for integrated I guess), this is loaded onto a solid state drive on the motherboard of a server and is installed by the company producing the hardware - IBM, HP, DELL etc. This variant does not come with management tools, you need to buy them extra.

  In addition to this VMWare decided to release the cut-down ESXi code to be able to be used in test and evaluation environments - to get a "foot in the door". This can either be installed as a full featured installation for an evaluation period (60 days I think), or in a further cut down configuration (less CPU and memory support etc.) in an untimed evaluation configuration. This last option is what I installed and tested with.
