Actually, it's that you need a processor with virtualisation code in the processor AMD-V or VT-X are the terms used I believe. By the way not ALL Intel Core-2 processors have this - you must check the individual specs.

My experience with virtual environments is primarily with Mac computers.  I've found that to run eCS in a virtual environment you must have an Intel Core 2 duo processor.  If you don't, eCS won't work in a VM.

I tried (briefly) yesterday to install the 2.0 GA in Virtual Box.  The installation failed during Step 1.  It may have been related to the following problem:  I've noticed that if I detach the mouse from the virtual machine during installation, things can go seriously awry and the installation crashes.  I'll try tonight leaving the mouse attached to the VM and see what happens.

That's no good. From the Quick Installation Guide for eCS 2.0 GA that
Mike O'Conner sent me, it seemed as if it was optimised for VirtualBox.
Oh well, just need to wait for the experts to have a go & plot a path.

For what it's worth, ECS 2.0 GA installed in a VM with VMWare Fusion 3 on a iMac running Snow Leopard.  However, the I had to go into the opening menus and select the installation option of  modern hardware with ACPI instead of the default option of install in a virtual machine. If I installed using "virtual machine," the installation program would hang while loading the driver pcibus.snp.

Good news. At least one virtual environment works.

I'll try to convince my "flash dude" of a son to sully his MacBook Pro
by installing eCS onto it. Unlikely though.

She didn't arrive so I'm off to bed. It's 6:30AM here.
